Wasted or Useful Research

I am beginning to use the last of my SRP to finish the following techs. I have spent 11 turns on them already. I want to make sure that these are useful techs. This means my ships could have had better sensors for scanning warp points or other bonuses in the game I do not have. Please let me know if they are viable. I already asked in another thread when I said I had 19 slots working on them and no one said anything.

Improved Consumer Goods

Improved Food Concentrates

Improved Foodstuffs

Improved Luxury Goods

Improved Plantfoods

Improved Weapons

Gamble?? I was under the impression that everything would have a use in Draco. When I first started I realized that 2 types of soldiers needed to be researched. I did. I then started researching improved weapons and food concentrates taking the 'gamble' that those techs would lead to something. They didn't. I then realized after doing ANZ orders on our starting Guards units that they didn't need improved or advanced anything. Just standard weapons and food were good enough. They did however require techs that after 13 years in Andromeda my premiere ground pounders didn't achieve yet. Btw I spent a full year researching those improved weapons and food concentrates. Disappointed would be a major understatement

Ok. This info is not secret. Any player can get it if they issue the proper orders.

Imperial guards Security needs suppressor tech

Imperial Guards Heavy Infantry needs imperial marines Heavy Infantry, Destroyer Pulse Cannon and powered assault armor

Imperial Guards Infantry. Needs imperial marines infantry, Tckon Imperial Assault Blaster and Assault Armor

Imperial Guards Heavy air defense needs Patriot Sam and warden point defense system

I have just saved those Draco players who haven't bothered to find this out a few orders

I'll take a look at some of those items (Improved Food Concentrates for ground units for example) to make sure they synched up right in the Draco tech file when Draco got created. They definitely need to be useful--if there's an issue, I can edit the tech to make sure that's fixed up.

I don't really see the value in these requirements. The ground combat system is, or has been. all about combined arms and an accumulation of techs to cover all of the TAC areas. Since you can cover all, or almost all of the areas with army techs there seems little reason to worry about Guards or Marines. So, that begs the question - Is there any real difference in the combat effectiveness of a Guard unit vs an Army unit or a Marine Unit?

If that part of the equation has not changed then having additional tech requirements needed to unlock a specific ground unit seems a bit over the top.

Of course, it will take years just to get to the tech and then you need an obliging target to test them out on before anybody will really know.

This opens a different game comcept for Draco. Your empire focused on a non ground pounder race and is an average race. The ground pounder will be able to get multiple tac shifts you will not able to get. Maybe he focused on shields and can block those nasty bombs. This means stale mate but it is too late he is finally catching up in those space techs and the battle starts to turn. So far new techs are popping up making us wonder what surprises Pete and Russ have waiting for us. Other things you need to worry about Death Machines. Yes you just conquered Joe Bob your hated player enemy. What you forgot is he was holding off an onslaught of Death Machines. He had to pull everything back to defend his home world. Now your weakened fleet must face the Death Machines and his world dies to massive assaults by fresh ships. Can you hold off more fronts?

In Draco, there will be no rescuing fleets. Fighters and drones will not be replaced. When you lose it will take up to six months to counter if you are close and the Death Machines do not pounce on you while refueling. High tech ships because of low AP will not be able to scoop fuel fast. Gas giants will be more heavily defended in enemy territory. I believe Draco strategies will be very different from Andromeda.

That's not good news for telepaths. I imagine Special Talent units will have similar pre-reqs since they need Imperial Guards Soldiers (or at least they used to).
