Hello Again,
Our placid Hegemony is again suffering the horrible pains of dealing with people shooting at us. I guess it is better than suffering the infernal cattle prods of Kurassier and his race. As noted in a prior message many moons ago, my vaunted fighter tech appears topped out at gunboats. I am still working on researching all the various types, but I don't hold out any hope that a better fighter tech is going to appear. This is a problem because my latest opponent apparently has the 100cm Spinal Rail Gun. I don't even know how to get this tech, does anyone else have the details on it? I assume I should be looking at deflectors and lots of them with this thing. Thanks.

Moo.

That one of the easy spinal mount weapons systems. Just follow your Gauss Gun
tech and it will lead you straight to those spinal mounts.
Good Luck!

A large being wearing a Khaki outfit enters the chat room. Speaking in a some bizarre dialect, he addresses you.
"So, your the bloke interested in a rail gun. Ya got good taste their mate. Here, let me show you one".
The being reaches behind them into a dark opening that appears from nowhere, and amazingly draws out one hell of a huge item
"Isn't she a beaut! Of course, the rail here is folded down for safties sake. Hate to blow off your gibbers by mistake"
Shifting slightly, the being moves the massive weapon from one shoulder to the other, drawing some tentacles along the heft of the weapon.
"Just look at those lines mate. So sleek and simple. None of them there fancy gemstones and demonblood and other fanciful items in this beauty. Just simple steel and electronics, lovingly crafted into a precision based weapon of death and destruction. Crikey this will be sure the barbecue any ship you meet. And..."
Unbelievably, the creature swings the weapon around behind itself, pointing it backwards, and presses several studs. The rail swings out and unfolds itself, the unit whines a few moments, followed by a flash of light. After a few seconds of silence, a blinding blast of light appears in the distance as the shell impacts on a mountain side.
"..they're also useful for hunting womp-rats. That is, if you don't mind the blast wave" the creature says, just before a blast of air sends you tumbling backwards, much to the glee and laughter of the being.

100cm Spinal Rail Gun
Weapon
Requires: 80cm Gauss Gun
Weight: 10,000
Uses: 40,000 Advanced Steel; 10,000 Advanced Electronics
Projectile Strength: Impressive (Beam class, 320,000)

Spinal Rail Guns are incredibly large weapons that often run the entire length of a starship. Massive projectiles cased in steel are imparted a magnetic charge and then accelerated at fantastic speeds down a tube filled with magnetic boosters. By the time the projectile leaves the Rail Gun housing, it is moving quite rapidly. Though slow to fire, a hit by one of these things can rip apart a target in short order, tearing through it at unthinkable velocities. Accelerating other objects down tubes similar to the Spinal Rail Gun is often discussed by your weapons specialists.

100cm Spinal is the same as an 80cm Gauss in terms of damage.

Thank you for the information. This will be a help. Am I correct that the defense against this thing is the Deflector? Also, is the 100cm version the end of that weapon tree? I am rather hoping it is though from the replies, it appears like that may not be the case.

Deflectors and Stasis Generators are the defensive systems we are aware of.

Bad news: This is not the highest in that series.

If you saw only a couple of them its possible they are from an exploration find. Any larger amounts would probably indicate the race has researched the item or gotten real lucky with the exploration orders.

Here's a general type question related to the spinal rail gun.

Does anyone know (and are they willing to share) whether there are other "spinal" weapons?

If yes, do you need to first acquire "spinal rail gun" tech before getting something like "spinal magnetic grapple", "spinal laser cannon" or "spinal fusion weapons"? Or, does each line naturally develop it's own version of a spinal mount, independant of a spinal rail gun?

Another related question, do "Capital Ship Missiles" ever come about? The concept is similar to a spinal mount except that the weapon is a missile.

Same question for Drones/fighters.

Thanks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but there IS a 200cm version. On the bright side it was an exploration find, so it is possible the weaponry is from a similar exploration expedition.

The only other one I know about is the Type A Spinal Antimatter Cannons:

Type A Spinal Antimatter Cannons: Spinal Antimatter Cannons are pairs of incredibly large weapons that often run the entire length of a starship. Gravitonic control systems accelerate the antimatter at fantastic speeds down a tube filled with gravitonic boosters. Spinal Antimatter Cannons mount massive gravitonic generators and nearly shake themselves to pieces when fired. Each pair of cannons fire twin beams of antimatter at a target, and when both beams strike true, the section impacted is instantly destroyed in spectacular fashion. Though slow to fire, a hit by one of these things can rip apart a target in short order. This is not something that should be aimed at small targets because the twin cannons will do so much damage to such targets that there is often wasted firepower. This is a ship killer, used to punch through the armor of large enemy vessels. (90,000 tons) 90,000 Caldaran Crystals - 270,000 Advanced Steel - 90,000 Advanced Electronics
Classification: Weapon Range: Beam Structural Integrity: 90000
Prerequisite Technologies: Siege Antimatter Blaster, Siege Phase Shaker, Advanced Superconductor
Particle Beam Strength: Magnificent [23040000]

Now that we're sharing technology, would anyone else care to post something magnificent in reply?
Good digging!

Thanks PA.

Due to the generosity of the poster known as Szorpek Rohannol (thanks alot Szorpek, I am sorry I do not possess any Magnificent class items or I would reciprocate your generosity), I see that the pre-req's for the Antimatter Spinal mount are a combination of two tech lines, and do not include the spinal rail gun. Since there are other spinal type weaps out there, I would guess that they are not dependant on the development of spinal rail guns either...

So, is anyone out there willing to continue the spirit of generosity demonstrated by Szorpek and post any other high end tech ANZ's?

Thanks again Szorpek.

Would if I could - but can't unfortunately, so I won't. All I can do for now is dream of times to come when I will have such stuff!
