Is there a specific order to spend setup points on research , or is this something that happens automatically as long as you have setup points available? I know , another newbie question....but SNII was set up somewhat differently......

As soon as you issue a SRP order, unspent points get activated until exhausted.

This is also true for points you get from early Santa on SNROTE anniversaries.
