Hi all,

I am a returning player to SN with a new set up this last turn. When I played previously there was a great spreadsheet which uploaded you turns from a text file into different spreadsheets.
If I remember rightly there was Galaxy/Research/population groups and others.

It was great for a quick snapshot of your Empire and doing production and generally organising your turns. The player who made it was called Phase dragon.

Does this still exist or is there an alternative/bastardised version that people use.

Thanks All,

Nick

nickc,

Try this:

I think Phase quit, not 100% sure of that tho.
Lord Uriel
He quit a long time ago. The sheets no longer work properly. Good luck.

Thanks for info.I downloaded all the sheets and can't get any info to upload from my turnsheet. Its a pity as this really enhances this game.

Yeah, I noticed that too! So it's off to find 'Excel for Idiots'[prequel to Dummies], some new crayons, & some of Kurassiers best; then try to use his format to make something that works. unsure.gif beer.gif

Any one of the three promises entertainment with it's own rewards!
Lord Uriel
I have been trying to make an updated version for quite a while now. I've learned that I know nothing about excel macros. blink.gif

those macro's stopped working about 3 adobe pft's updates ago... I liked it... to bad we don;t have anyone who can do that again...

If we buy the right books, I think we can. My Office 2000 for Dummies has a chapter titled 'Having Fun with Formulas & Functions' that I'm just dying to get to excited.gif thumbup.gif

It is scary what we are reduced to, waiting for turns..... laugh.gif

it is not the macros that do not work, it is the parsing of the turn, for two reasons.

One pete changed the look of several sections
and Adobe changed the format of save to text.

If you down load adobe reader 6.02 that part will work again, IE adobe will save in correct format

it is programmed in visual basic, so you still will have to change the programming to match the new turns

You're right, Octus, it is scary; but enlightening as well. Right now it looks like I'm well on my way to developing a ship design worksheet that will[if I print in color] not only deplete my ink cartridges at an alarming rate; but enable me to complete it, using pencil & calculator, in about half the time it would take without the form. huh.gif

Mother would be so proud!

Mixed technologies and high cost toner. Sure you want to do this? Mom may be prouder if you saved money on toner.

May you be continuously enlightened and your wallet less (en)lightened.....

Mixing technologies can be both rewarding & enlightening[i.e.: distilling and brewing]. wink.gif By doing so, I was able to achieve a lateral breakthrough by using monochrome printing and upgrading to a mechanical pencil. I can't wait to see where this branch of the tree leads. unsure.gif

My ship design worksheet is at http://www.geocities.com/batkins23/Sargon.html
Sadly, I still have not updated it to calculate defensive stats.

There is also a spreadsheet for calculating tooled production. It isn't anything like PhaseDragon's. I don't try to import data from the turn results and there are no macros. It's just for calculating production and determining amounts for BI orders.

Both are Excel 2000.

Wow! That's some website. thumbup.gif

It's going to take me awhile to digest it; but thank you, SargonKingOfSlith, for the effort and the courtesy. smile.gif

That is great. Thanks for the link.

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anybody had copies of PhaseDragon's spreadsheets and databases that they could email me (PM me first and I'll send back my email address) or attach here, as his website no longer exists. I realise they won't work on today's turns but I was hoping they would help rekindle my somewhat rusty (if not downright rudimentary rolleyes.gif ) VB knowledge and I could get my database to import from PDFs (or more likely a text file).

If I do get it working I'll post the database (created using Access) to a website or here (once I've deleted my data wink.gif ) if people are interested?

Cheers in advance for any help.

I bumped my two toolsets. They need an update, though.
I am using them now on MacOS with mysql.

And batkins has a prduction sheet on his site.

Thanks Cestvel,

The scripts look very useful and give me some great code\ideas to build upon (\pinch wink.gif )....and the itemlist.csv is making me drool at some of the tech I can't even begin to ANZ yet thumbup.gif

There is another problem, you will run into, when adobe converts the turn to text, different versions convert differently, his sheets were set up in adobe 6.02

The ones that are most useful are codes and Galaxy, with the later being the easiest to fix. the research one never worked over very many turns.

Hi Gary,

Cestvel very kindly bumped a few of his posts so I could download his Perl scripts.... I haven't actually managed to get my hands on PhaseDragon's work yet, would you have copies you could email me?

I think I'll use Xpdf rather than Acrobat to convert to text and if I can get the import working my next job will be to write some script to run the pdftotext command line from Access.

Phew ... all this work writing spreadsheets and databases, maybe I should just concentrate on getting my turn in tongue.gif

Then you might want to update as well, as I have fixed some things (esp. large numbers wink.gif )

I have all Ed's original sheets, and will send them to anyone that wants them.
Breoghan
I'd appreciate it if you could sent them to me. I'm learning how to program these sheets as I go along and I've slammed into one brick wall after another, so at the very least they could help me see where I'm going wrong - or they could replace my feeble efforts altogether.
