  6. Sorry Paradigm, I was referring to Garys initial post but replied to yours. I could not understand what the problem he was posting about was. And as I said...having multiple positions COLBing in a row could be used to locking out the defender from counterattacking. Again my apologies if you thought I was implying you in my reply, it was for garys. /Locklyn
  7. The OC then DIV, ALL both takes an order block, so if the defender GATK's in the first order block while you are OC'ing the fresh divisions . . . I think after 1 turn an enemy population group should be fair game for the defender to GATK. How long do you think it should last? If a defending fleet arrives and stops further troop landings, do you think you should be able to come back 10 turns later and still have a beachhead on his homeworld? Why should an attacker be allowed to probe attack then wait a turn to see the results without risking the loss of his landing zone? This gives all advantages to the attacker. When an issue is in doubt, I think it should favor the defender. I also agree that when someone COLB's a planet, all empires that already have a population group on that body should receive a message. Also, when someone GATK's and captures an undefended body, the "defenders" should receive notification. I don't see the problem here, it's always been that you have a single turns free reign after the COLB to ensure you get your bridgehead if the defender is weak enough to allow you the high orbital. What is more disconcerting is that using the tactics you and your ally did, with COLBing turn after turn is that you would actually be blocking the defender from counterattacking. As long as you had two or three empires taking turns COLBing you could always claim your "counter-attack free" turn...but I am sure that was not what you were trying for... /Locklyn
  8. Well he did say "late saturday" which technically means he has until 11.59 pm his local time. What I find more worrying is that despite setting aside an extra day turns take longer to run and Pete comes back with "big battles slowing down process". Is anyone seriously expecting there to be fewer or smaller battles in the future? What is Pete doing to solve that or is it just a slow spiral down until Petes computers lets out a hissing shriek and melts? Oh and yes, would be nice to get some confirmation on that emails have been received and read and acted upon by Pete... /Locklyn

The Emperor today announced the loss of the Imperial Fuelling Ship Sweet Saviour as it was viciously attacked by an Underdeep Battleship in the Erine system, a known GGT system a far from the Albright system where the earlier incident happened. Fortunately its sister ship was of the newer models and quite capable of handling the Underdeep attacker but a stray shot from the enemy crippled the Sweet Saviour and she was lost with all hands.   10. Would have been nice to know that there is a limit of EB/BI orders of 999,999,999 as well. Messed up my production big time as the entry program says nada about this and changes whatever number you have inputed to 999,999,999 without notice which sucks. What worries me is that if the program can't handle big numbers what happens when my Ships of the Line enter combat with their 10-20 million of tons of Mk IX force shields? Or my HW Planetary Bastions with 1,000,000,000 Tckon 68. Can we trust that the BE carries this properly? /Locklyn

Will you still be employing a formula that calculates losses dependant on the Tech of both sides of the Transfer through the gate?   15. Many also make the mistake of thinking all Core Elder Empires are so much more powerful than younger positions. You must remember we stumbled around when tech systems where given ratings like "Poor" "Fair" and the famous "Would Not be Caught in a Shitstorm with this crap". We had no ideas of ICE, of Transwarp Drives or the paths to industrial science and many many more such fundamentally necessary technologies that many younger races take for given. We had no clue whatsoever on how combat worked, for all we know Pete went "Rock Scissor Paper" everytime we went into combat So we lost a lot of momentum especially in research, many of us have enormous industrial bases based on conquests and heavy use of ICE but still, the primary number one strength that many core races have over younger races are alliance. Especially up untill recently when there was the possibility of transferring tech and resources to and fro. Now that playing field os way more level but still the single most damaging thing a young race can do when facing an Elder is trying to go it alone. I don't know if any of this helps, if I make any sense at all. What I do know of C'estvel is that he is one of the most skilled players I've encountered, he's a terrific person but this is a wargame also and if you land on the wrong side of him, you are likely to be squished unless you form ranks.   16. I understand where you coming from and I think for a Younger Race to defend itself against an Elder Race Empire it mostly boils down to logistics. 1) The Sensor Fleet Perimeter is God. Since Cloaking never worked and 800 tons of fuel tankage merged with a jump drive and engine Sight fleets as well as a Sensor equipped one, get cheap ships on every WP, Every Gas Giant at least 7-12 systems out from your HW. An big invasion fleets primary problem is logistics with fuel being number one, surveyed WPs being number two. 2) Never ever let anyone survey WPs or SS systems within a three- four radius from your HW unless you know this person well enough or able to exert physical violence on him. 3) As soon as an Elder Race appears in your vicinity, start talking with every other Empire that you have met locally and band up if it is a conquering sort of Empire. The old "Why do you think he'll stop with my empire" bit usually works fine here. 4) If the Elder seems hellbent on taking you out, question it why, offer it nicer targets, offer it knowledge of the local sphere ie try diplomacy to save your ass. Also check if the Elder has any enemies of it own among other Elder Races, if so, kiss up to them, give intel on the ships crushing your fleets like so many pinatas and maybe this Empire will help you or at least take the moment to attack its old enemy. 5) The sad truth is though that a well researched elder probably can field enough firepower in one invasion fleet to match a Young Race entire navy BUT and this is important, too many ignore that you still have to be able to take out a world via invasion. If you trust your local allies, then perhaps a garrison of the heftiest toughest and meanest groundpounders you have locally can hold the HW from an elder race, especially since troops are a bitch to carry long distances. 6) Use allies to attack supply trains coming up from behind the invasion force on your HW. 7) Always research one weapon line you do not have on your front line ships, save it for The Line fleets around your HW or when you need to go on the counter-offensive... 8) if all else fails, fall to your knees begging for mercy and offer to pay tribute, this has worked in two cases with me. Ach you probably knew all this and for those that didn't my allies will smack me over the head for telling it, but I like a good fight, besides it is supposed to be fun Good luck Cheers /Locklyn

I am cloning my pop left and right and giving them the best medical care I have but the buggers won't procreate faster than that 25,000 cap so I need to build some workers Now when will that be in?   18. It's an interesting topic for discussion. However, this issue didn't come up before, when the defender could simply transfer everything off to some star system a gazillion jumps away. From the invader's point of view, those items were destroyed and gone forever. Now all of the sudden when the defender could conceivably destroy his own assets, it's a problem? I suspect he would transfer his assets off to a nearby ally or a new homeworld instead, but would make a lot of noise by threatening to destroy himself publicly just to try and discourage an attack. Even better, the attacker wouldn't know either way, but the defender kept his assets - a much better strategy for the conquered player than simply suiciding himself for nothing, especially when he was part of a major alliance that had plans to strike back. Of course, the attacker would still have picked up the probably-heavily-ICE'd world, a major prize in itself. Well, a heavily ICEd planet is not worth much without the population manning it or industries converting it when you already have more ICEd worlds than you can convert at home. Its the population one is after, perhaps you could add some sort of slaving raid order? Now that would be cool As for before when people could transfer their stuff away, why sooner or later you'd find them, that's what spies are there for, people really underestimate the usefulness of spies in a war campaign. When they are obliterated, they are gone period. Of course you've destroyed some of that Empires production and strategic power but it's more likely it will lead to players dropping when they spend their dollars and orders on DISM and gating out stuff to keep it from enemy hands. Besides, I love spoils, especially if I am the one taking them. /Locklyn

Well considering I already have scouts in what is considered younger areas this is a possibility...Everything around the GGT core is either an ally, conquered or empty burned out systems so we older races need our breathing space and considering that the one single most valuable resource in the game is population, yes we will be coming...I am sorry but thems the way the game is played and as for me, I have 40-70 of billions of surplus of every resource and constantly mine more than I can convert thus I need more pop and with the pop cap growth per planet this means more worlds, more HWs and more population to recruit as workers for the once pacifistic GGT. Now Rim system conquering is a lot of work, especially with the recent Gate changes so it will not be so common yet, but there are techs that make the travel out there a LOT easier so please quaver quiver or vibrate in footwear appropriate to your species I really really really need a good war to spice things up, any takers? /Locklyn

  22. Destroying everything in the fashion I am discussing was certainly possible through the jetison order through the following sequence LC/JETT through a convoy loop. Some assets might remain but not the important ones. That Pete put in another 3 levels of gate technology is not an important point to the discussion. For years we have actively sought higher gate levels and have the horizon tech in place. THE issue is that the "fix" does correct the abuses but at the expense of the previously stated goals of U-Gates. I am going to be extremely open here. Because of the U-gate technology and the previous issues with convoys slowing down the game I based my entire strategy development on gate technology. Keep in mind that I was one of the first to develop extremely fast thrust engines and warned RTG before it happened that convoys of hundreds/thousands of AP were possible. Nothing was done about this until recently (and I strongly suspect to make convoys workable in a processing sense with the most recent U-gate changes). I accepted the previous gate tax (3%) as being too low and was amazed when the gate tax was completely removed. It was a mistake on RTGs part. It was a greater mistake to NOT put error checking in for transferring between pop segments after the empire had its U-gate available switch turned on by RTG. If U-gates had followed a couple of simple concepts the abuses would not have happened. (1) Allow U/P-gate transfers ONLY between same empire pop segments (2) Make certain that the technology acts in the fashion that the ANZ or rules state. Lol, one guy tried that as I landed troops on his world, he forgot that convoy routes run AFTER actual orders so I had already GATKed the planet A UG you could TR out efverything on order 1
