Cities vs Domed vs Subterranean

Here's a question that perhaps someone can answer. I understand that building a city, then a domed city, then a subterranean city all helps towards reducing attrition, and that the bonuses towards attrition reduction are cumulative. Obviously building all 3 is better than building just 2, and building 2 is better than building one.

However, I'm curious if anyone has ever experimented to see which of the three provide the best bonus. In other words, lets say you have a colony with a very limited amount of pop and you want to use the least amount of pop to get the biggest improvement in attrition. Which of the three city types would provide that? Or, would you get a bigger improvement building something else like a Colonial Training Center or a fluid conversion plant or a pollution processor?

Thanks.

Different facilities reduce attrition for different reasons.

City and Colonial Training Center are the only facilities that reduce attrition no matter what the cause of that attrition. And they only provide a tiny benefit.

Domed City and Subterranean City only reduce attrition if the atmosphere is different than your home planet. The Subterranean City provides a greater benefit than the Domed City.

I believe that a domed cityand a subterranean city also give you a life form bonus as they are improved versions of city that have additional benefits of helping w/ atmosphere.

Subterranean Cities that I've built have completed eliminated any atmosphere related attrition. Basicall a CSV with a SC in place results in nothing showing up as a problem for atmosphere. Domed Cities have a much more reduced effect on atmo.

Cities, Domed Cities and Subterranean Cities provide a general attrition bonus in addition to whatever they happen to do for atmosphere and the other attrition modifiers. General attrition bonuses are almost always small, but they add up and apply to counter attrition on any world regardless of the conditions there. The general bonus is applied after every other attrition calculation is made, so it is always good. For the maximum possible bonus, you can build all of them - the general attrition bonus that each provides stacks with each other. Thus, you could build 1 City, 1 Domed City, 1 Subterranean City for the same 100 population and they would benefit from the general bonus that each provides. That's a really expensive way to go, but it does help. If you don't want to pay for a Subterranean City (expensive!), a regular City along with a Domed City isn't a bad way to go. Tired of living under the domes in the molten lava swamp? No problem! Head out to your vacation cabin in the much more pleasant crystal forest! :pirate2:
