Another point to keep in mind is that the research gas bar is 20 "tics" in length. you can get an idea of how far your research is by counting the tics. Aslo, nearly complete means that your usually at 19 tics

Good Cheer,

Rick

I've had something sitting at zero ticks for two turns, is this something that happens with higher level techs?

Unfortunately yes.

Even worse for 4 G and later techs it can sit there for as long as 3 to 5 turns depending on your research bonuses.

We hand out free drinks at the closest Star Bar whenever one of those 4G or later projects gets a new tick mark. The populace thinks we are very stingy, since these don't happen often enough....

Two drinks will be given out when Species Engineering finishes up. Some of the bonus will be used to improve the handling of enjoyable intoxicants so the happiness will last longer and the hang over will be briefer. (Hope to increase population growth as a side benefit...)

Do you have special parties when you actually complete researching one of those items?

What happens when the Oracle of the Universe gives some special inspirition to your scientists and they magically complete the research in a single cycle? Lots of bonus parties??? :P

Everyone gets the freebie, the scientists get the usual platitudes and promotion without added compensation. Just like the human model on Earth.

Oh, so the lead scientist gets the credit and the rest of the team get the shaft, just like here then. I get it. :woohoo:

Some things never change. Physicis may be warped a tad in SN:ROTE, but (in)human behavior is relatively constant.

OK, thanks for the answers. Seems like a drastic fall off; two ticks per turn for 2nd Gen, two ticks per five turns for 3G.

Actually it is three ticks per turn for 3G and five for 4G and beyond so the falloff is not that drastic. Of course the real issue is knowing which techs lead to higher gen techs and which casue you to fall back to lower generation so you can plan your research strategies.
