A thought - where is the big expense in processing time when running a convoy route? I believe each time a fleet moves, the system checks that location for any other fleets that might trigger a battle. Perhaps processing time for this could be cut down by only checking the first time a fleet goes through a convoy route each turn.

While that might save some time, it probably would not be a lot. Remember in the convoy run that many different things might occur. If they warped, the program has to confirm they were at a warp point, confirm they can jump, confirm fuel usage, update the ships cargo, update the ships position (for each ship in the fleet), etcetera... For a Cargo unload it needs to confirm the ships position, confirm the cargo can be unloaded there, decrement the amounts in the cargo hold, increment the counts on the colony, update the database for each location for each resource amount changed, etcetera.... all while printing out results at the right point. All those other actions really add up .. fast!
