Are Bob and you following history? (Ansluss-> Poland -> Denmark -> Norway -> Lowlands -> France -> Russia, etc, etc) You know, those delightful Germans just love to make interesting compound words. For instance Notarztwagen literally means "emergency physician vehicle"--ambulance. My profession--nurse--required a new word, since Krankenschwester ("sick sister") didn't work for us studly male nurses. So I am der Krankenpfleger, or "guardian of the sick." Now, you're wondering if I'm making a point here. The point is this: Pzkw, or Panzerkampfwagen, literally means "armored battle vehicle". So, yes, even the lowly Pz II can be called a Panzer, because the word is synonymous with tank. BTW, you can file this under "who gives a damn?": the term "Nazi" comes from the German NAtional SoZIalistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, or National Socialist German Workers Party. And "Gestapo" is Geheime Staat Polizei, or Secret State Police--as opposed to the dreaded Geheime Stadt Polizei, which is also called SWAT. I though that Nazi was the anglicized spelling of the German pronunciation of NaSi as the "s" there is pronounced like a "ts" in American English and the "i" or long "e" sound was the German was of identifying someone who belonged to the NaS party. Much like Schottsi is a loved one from the verb to love....and Kahgehbeshneek is the was the Sov's called the KGB finks from Kah (the letter 'K') Geh (the letter 'G') Beh (the letter 'B') - Nik (one who 'is' whatever preceeded the nik), but since you cannot have the soft sound "nik" follow the soft ending of Beh, you have to add a sound (esh) to make KahGehBeshNik) - otherwise, Nazi would be pronounced rhyming with Kamikaze rather than Potsy.
