Eldred
Thanks for that, never paid as much attention to the descriptors on the research report until now. It would seem my concerns are based on my incorrect assumptions on how research and research centres operate... If an empire is able to research the Mark I Standard Missile in 3 turns instead of the standard 4 then I assumed that the empire would be able to get something like the Medium Beam Laser in 9 turns instead of the standard 12. This is apparently not always the case, and the empire may actually take 10 turns! I presume from this that research bonuses have a lesser effect (% wise) as the tech gets progressively harder to research. Also, is it still the accepted position that outputs from multiple research centres equate to approximately the square root of the number of centres involved? My calculations would suggest that this formula is a little on the conservative side.
RTGPete
Eldred, Pete said he was rerunning the failed 'ANZ' orders. take a closer look at your tech progress and you will see that it wasnt affected in the slightest. JUST the ANZ orders failed That's correct - it was just the ANZ failures, and didn't affect anything else. I've reprocessed ANZ's and just finished sending out the reprints, so you should have them now. Only ANZ's were run, with the the results tagged on to the end of your results (right after your production from last turn). Nothing else was run, so no change, just the ANZ text added. My calculations would suggest that this formula is a little on the conservative side. After 2 years of noting research requirements and about a year of the revitalised Research Report, we're pretty happy that the results are consistent. 3 (not 4) RCPoint techs and 12 RCPoint techs are gained when expected and depend on the empire's RC Bonus - which also seem to remain completely true for higher techs. We're also pretty sure that the square root formula holds throughout, but must admit to limited trialling with high numbers of RCs. Eldred
Tedric, Thanks for that. God knows why I was thinking that some techs have a standard research period of 4 turns instead of 3 Have now done my calculations again and the figures work out as expected!!! If you haven't already disregarded my earlier ramblings on this subject then please do so

Add to the collective knowledge, with absolute pleasure - especially when I find out subsequently that I've been wrong about something and it helps back!
