Captain Hercules Poirot of the Dauntless class ship Excalibur wondered about the upcoming travels. The EEOC was fielding its first generation of Transwarp drives and although the prototypes had failed, the engineers had promised success. Reports from the front indicated incursions into EEOC space by the Templars. This unknown race had recently been encountered along with the Pharonic Guardians and the Brain. What a month that had been! The revisonist elements of the Commerce Church had been thrown into a turmoil when not one, not two but three alien races without an economic concern had been encountered! How could this be?

 

Captain Hercules Poirot pushed off from the docks of Starslip One and watched as his sister ship the Heron disapeared in a flash. At least one did not die on this side of the jump.

 

The Excalibur dispeared in a flash and proceed to appear. All seemed normal as the ship continued its intended long distance move to the front. All of a sudden klaxons sounded. The Excalibur warp movement had placed it square in the path of a Templar Trailblaser. All sides started firing. Beams of light flashed from the Templar ship as Captain Poirot's team manned the long lance torpedos. Darts of danger flashed across the noiseless void. All of a sudden Ranger Dorian's topedo team reported a strike. The Trailblaser listed and slowly glided towards the local sun. The crew cheered. Their first victory.

 

Rumours abounded of larger Templar ships but with the excited Captain Poirot and his exploration leader Dorian nothing could go wrong. The ship prepared to Warp again, the comms department sent a hasty report home about the Trailblaser's location and apparent heading just seconds prior to warping.

 

The ship appeared in a previously unknown system.....There in front of them was a large combat ship. Peace seemed to reign only because the enemy ship seemed not to notice them. All of a sudden the warp point began to glow and the combat ship ahead of them started powering up their weapons. Captain Poirot ordered battle stations. The crew started firing their new torpedos but there seemed to be little impact. Just as Captain Poirot began to fear the worst the Excalibur's sister ship the Heron appeared. How could this be. The Heron's mission was in an opposite quadrant. No time for discussions. Quick communications and both ships started firing torpedos. The MK II Long Lances did little damage as a glowing shield appeared and absorbed the damage.

 

The Heron died in a flash of lasers. Captain Poirot dispatched the emergency beacon just in time. His ship exploded in flames but no one could hear him!
