Kevin.C
Which is better? I'm thinking of applications such as towing orbital installations. Kevin
ali-t-akua
It depends. Tractor Beams are better within the same class (Light/Medium/Heavy).
Krelnett_of_Kraan
It really doesn't depend. Tractor beams are superior in every conceivable way. Also note that pressor beams are weapons, not tug items.
Ixitixl
According to the ANZ, Magnetic Grapples benifit ships on EXPL missions, but there is no mention of this for Tractor Beams...

A Medium Magnetic Grapple will tug as much as a Light Tractor Beam so it depends on the modifier (Light, Medium, Heavy).
Krelnett_of_Kraan
How do their weights compare, though? A light tractor beam hauls only 1.5x as much as a lt mag grapple, but it also weighs only half as much, so ton for ton it's 3x as effective. How much does a med mag grapple weigh? Thats a good point Krel. I was not thinking in terms of weight or effectiveness per pound, just output capability.
