Question about Weapon Ranges

I heard about the penatlies of trying to use short range weapons at long ranges. Can any tell me the possible penalties for using long range (standoff) weapons like long lance torpedoes at close range if any?

So far there has been no evidence of there being a negative to using long range weapons up close and personal but the naval combat document may well go deeper into the whole range issue once it arrives.

Possibly damage per ton would be less than a short range missle or beam weapon. I have to look at the information on different weapons. That is the only possible drawback I can think of.

Long range weapons do less damage per ton than shorter range weapons. Using them at short ranges gives away the inherent benefit of the range factor and allows the enemy to pound you faster in return.

Glad to know now. Probably wouldn't hurt to invest into better short range torpedoes too.
