System Lord Ra
System Lord Ra has requested that those visiting this board notice the importance of fire control. Our older generation Mother Ship lacked these new innovations and as you can see suffered some damage at the hands of the ground fortress. We would like to point out that the Romans have shown absolute cowardice sacrificing 10 Colonial Berthing ships + auzilary ships in order for the surface fortress to survive. This all in sight of the home world. We can only imagine what our next conquest will be. Possibly our "ex-GSL" mole has provided us with the Roman Home System layout or possibly we just guessed "right". More to follow and we, who had desired to be peaceful", ask the Romans to surrended (along with this recently seen Valkor ship). You have brought us into this war with your unprovoked attack of one of our scouts. Lord Apophis - PS - We are wondering as to the effectiveness of BOMBs. Please await our next post.... WKE235
This just raises so many questions. 1) The fortress is listed at Deploy Location 2. Is that correct? I know there is a bug in how deploy locations are reported. So, where was the fortress located. Given that the fortress was the last item destroyed, it has to be beyond that. But where? PETE? 2) How does the atmosphere of a planet effect the weapons based in a fortress? Same goes for fire from a ship into the planet? PETE? 3) What was the status of the Mother Ship damage wise before the battle started? We know it took quite a pounding at the warp point battle. 4) How does 10 Battle Imaging systems + 10 Mk I Computers add up to 100,000 Bridge points? ali-t-akua
4) How does 10 Battle Imaging systems + 10 Mk I Computers add up to 100,000 Bridge points? I thought Battle Imaging Systems were 9000 and Mk I Computers were 1000 each. That would add up to 100000.

Ur Lord Tedric
Deploy Locations for hostile fleet: WKE you are correct. DEPL Location 2 for Bastion. I take back my cowardly comments about the Romans their bastion went down last due to the screening activities of their Roman Colony ships. FOOOOLLLLLLSSS. Whilst we deplore this action - well, we would....... It looks as though the single SFX just couldn't screen all those merchants and therefore we assume something like this..... Each 'round' the Goa'uld Mothership targeted one of the opposing ships. In the main, whilst they existed, this was one of the merchants. Only 1 out of 15 chance at the beginning of the SFX being selected. However, after that initial targeting, there is a second chance as there is the SFX in a 'closer' DepLoc. This second bite at the cherry, as we understand it, is not guaranteed to target the SFX and something else may still be selected. Thus a merchant, with so many there compared to the one SFX, was still more likely to be targeted first even though attempting to shield themselves behind the curve of the mountain that contained the SFX. We do not know how many 'rounds' actually ensued and the SFX was certainly hit many more times than once before it succumbed. But each time a merchant was hit it was vaporised...... WKE235
I was thinking that it looked more like .. you have to clear the orbital space (Ships) first before you can target and fire on ground defenses (like the SFX). In other words, Space based targets are given a much higher priority to be targeted than ground based. So, the highest odds to be fired on would be Ships in Deploy location 1, then 2, then ... etcetera .. and then after all the ships, Ground Installations in Deploy Location 1, then 2, then ... etcetera... EternusIV
Interesting results. Thank you for posting them. Offensive target prioritizing does not exist in this game. It all depends on where the defender deploys their fleet. Each fire control 'glob' has a higher % chance of hitting deploy loc 1 to higher....in the form of, and I quote our GM from his very lips in the company of several ears (and pints) at the table, "a very bad bell curve"...that doesn't mean that the 'glob' will go to loc 1...and then loc 2...and then loc 3.....in fact, there is a tiny chance that the 'glob' will vaporize that fuel tanker in the back row on the first shot! Now just because a 'glob' hits the SFX, it doesnt mean the glob 'destroys' it right away....it probably took a long time to beat that SFX into dust...hence why it lasted so long. Had the SFX had better fire control!!! Name of the game? As the attacker - the more 'blobs' you have, the better off you are, having screen vessels doesn't hurt. As the Defender - build lots of annoying screen vessels and heavily armored damage dealers with high fire control and long range weapons in the rear..... Seems more obvious to me. My question is this: Why even bother with ship to ship targetting? Lets just have fleet ratings hammer each other out....this randomness of deployment/targetting thing can be quite a bother on planning....but I guess it does add some depth to the game. I'm just suggesting it to get rid of these dumb screening vessels....they are a total pain in the arse I'm going to guess that atmosphere has no effect? The results are another example of how you need superior fire control to overwhelm a bunch of junk to get to the meat of your target. And the fire control ratings check out here, too. Unless Uncle Pete would like to say it's different... Everything we've been told so far seems to point out that whether they're Starships, Orbitals or any of the flavour of Surface Forts they are all 'ships'. All ships just fight in the DepLoc you choose for their class... Thus you can have Surface screen in DL1 as well as Orbital screen and Starship screen.... It's odd, but there it is.... It's why we asked a long time ago how Orbitals and PDCs could have different DLs - seeing as how they can't move.....but, it seems they can. Ur Lord Tedric
Can we ask something else? Assuming this Goa'uld Mothership is the same one as last time, what happened to it's "Medium Damage".....?????? Did it start off the battle against the SFX still damaged, or had it miraculously repaired itself. Or worse, did that damage just dissapear - in which case, perhaps the Roman SFX should have won???? Please, please could this be confirmed? Chief Warmaster to Ur-Lord Tedric
Sakarissa
Well, is had medium damage the previous turn. Now, after this battle, it is listed as crippled. That means it is more damaged than before. Maybe all the defenses on the mothership prevented most of the damage but it still took enough to get it to the crippled descriptor. Based on that descriptor, I would say that it is more than 50% damaged. Most likely closer to 75% damaged. That is just my guess.
