kukri65
Based on the materials available to newbies it looks like there are three different bridge system trees: the Computer Systems tree, the Battle Imaging System tree, and the Sensors/Fleet Formation Scanner tree. Would any of the older and wiser beings out there care to comment on the pros and cons of these various avenues of research? Thanks.

All have a bridge rating. It's really up to you what path you choose.

hobknob
The Mk X computer tree is the least involved. The other ones give you other options but they also require more tech to be researched.

Do all three trees go up as high? Or does one top out early?
hobknob
They all do high enough for most uses. The end points shave not all been established so it is hard to say which one goes the furthest.
MadMartinB
Mk IX is very attainable... Since Cloaking Devices are not fully operational the other paths are not as important. Computer Systems are actually a moot point except for reducing the cost to dish out globs. The biggest issue is damage inflicted. Since only a few weapon paths go beyond a fixed level you max amount the damage you do per 100 tons. This in effect makes the bridge systems worthless. An example: T-68 Armor surface installation - 1000 tons x 1000 = 1000000*9 = 9 Million tons of defense. Type D Plasma - deals out 7M tons of damage for 100,000 tons. so 1 shot almost kills the 1000 ton ship. If you had a 64 bridge control you would shoot 64 globs hitting most likely 64 of the screens and do little damage.
