EternusIV
Someone suggested a poll. Here it is

EternusIV
Shhhhh - don't let anyone know (845 posts and counting  )
Palladium Regency
How many keyboards have you gone thru now? Sad. Sad. We should take up a collection to get you in the program for those hopelessly addicted to forums at the Betty Ford Clinic. (grin)
EternusIV
 My 'E' is fading on this keyboard but it still seems to work I belong to a ton of other forums (Gaming and professional.) Maybe I am addicted My only defense: my post count on the RTG boards in over a year or so is child's play compared to the posting that happens in the other forums I'm in. This is by far the 'slowest' board in activity I'm involved in - but to me - still one of the most interesting. I can already tell what my next game-related addiction is going to be: Conventions....especially SNROTE conventions. Putting faces and personalities to the board names is awesome. I really hope we can pull off a larger SNROTE convention of sorts within the next year.
Sssarass
EternusssIV, how about another option. You can do an order ???? that will tell you the dissstance from the current sssyssstem you are currently in to a sssyssstem that you have an assstronomical obssservatory or sssome other sssimiliar inssstallation in? (in light yearsss for example). I believe that thisss isss sssomething sssimiliar to what you talked about in another thread. EternusIV
Crap. Won't let me edit. I smoosh myself for not remembering that option Me
Crukus Amungus
Or just add distance to the warp survey information. Sol (WP 0001) ---> Beta Centauri Type: A Size: 51 Distance: 4LY Sol (WP 0002) ---> Sigma Draconis Type: C Size: 32 Distance: 16LY This way one would have the distances between warp points for mapping purposes. cestvel
Or just add distance to the warp survey information. I support this proposition. So mappers are given something and the fog of galaxy layout is still hidden. Consequently I voted for the 3rd option. ali-t-akua
In the Gencon thread I asked about why people think they need to map and what benefit it would bring. The answer I got was it helps to visualize their empire. I can understand that but in all of this discussion I could not help but think that everyone is consumed with where systems are relative to their HW and it really does not matter. The only two things that are important is teh connection between the systems and the cost to Warp between them. Coordinates, even relative ones only help in visualization but they are not necessary in order to play this game. (Well thats my theory anyway.) Oh and I voted No on the poll. (Oh and this is not an argument not to map, just that I dont think coordinates or distances are needed.)

(Oh and this is not an argument not to map, just that I dont think coordinates or distances are needed.) I think you do not understand the problem. When you have 250 systems and with it 750 warppoints (and thats only after two years), it is hard when you have to move parts of them from one place to another. Even more if you do it on paper. It is like a knot of wool which have to be unraveled after the cat has played with it. Redrawing costs a lot of time. If the moment comes that i spent many hours on redrawing maps i can tell you now: i will stop playing.

Ur Lord Tedric
Gentle now...... Be fair to a reasonable question.... Currently our dolphin friend doesn't see the need to map at all. Given the dolphin's spatial awareness, personal sonar and lack of writing and records, perhaps he doesn't need it. So, he doesn't see the need to re-map at all. All he needs is knowledge of the links. I for one will be very interested to see how he's running his empire in another year if he still doesn't have a 'map'....... Given the dolphin's spatial awareness, personal sonar and lack of writing and records, perhaps he doesn't need it. Don't underestimate the value of sonar. We used it extensively in the Alcatraz bar in Indianapolis. Snagged a couple by shouting "Supernova" at random intervals
