This has been because of the number of difficult warp points and the number of Warp Nexus that have been discovered. About 50% of these systems are nexus and the warp points have been higher than a Class C. I have been concentrating my efforts with industrial colonies back in my home system and therefore have not ventured further than two systems away. My research is about halfway to Mk III Jump Survey Sensors and I am in the process of building science colonies in the outer systems to help survey the more difficult warp point. I am not an "Elder" empire and so I did not start in the galactic core, but I did start playing Supernova six months after it started.
