:blink: Ok as we all know, Pete says that there is a slight small chance that using either a EXPL or XEXPL order that one might find (if one has cargo space) some cash of Tech Items :thumbsup: !!! Has ANYONE at all found anything yet :taz: ??? If so speak up, Pete said he was going to UP the %, but I have not heard of anyone yet finding anything...has anyone else :P ???

:P Ok Pete, care to 'HINT' at the size these Cargo bays should be. most of my EXPL type ships have either 25k or 50k Cargo bays! Care to give us a hint or clearer range we should have in the way of Cargo Holds??? :thumbsup:

Ok, maybe I'm just cynical or naive, but who is going to be EXPLoring with a fleet that has a million tons of cargo holds? Seems like an awful waster of valuable cargo space...... :P

As I understand the situation, to achieve a decent level of exploration results you need a large fleet of explorer craft carrying out XEXPL orders on lots of different worlds. If items found can be of the 1,000,000 ton class then to cover for this possibilty exploration ships would have to be enormous (and few in number). :P

My exploration ships have cargo bays in the order of 10,000 - 20,000. Am I therefore wasting my time with such small ships? Is it a question of balancing getting lots of XEXPL results and never having enough capacity for finds or just building a few massive ships and waiting for the big payday!

It seems to me things would be much easier (and more realistic!) if items could be found, and then (in the event of insufficient cargo space) additional ships could be sent to collect. If we can't have that then can the GM give us some hints about the size of typical finds - ie will most of them fit into a 10,000 bay? are the sizes completely random or do they follow some sort of formula? are the enormous finds incredibly rare?

Up to 1 million tons eh??? well that settles it then. I need a ship or group of ships with that many holds. It may be that finding that 1 million ton piece of hardware is like hitting the lottery but hey if would be just my luck to find it and NOT have the space to carry it. As Hobnob put it a 1 million ton cargo hold doesnt really take up too many resources and its better to be safe then really bummed out and sorry should you be lucky enough to discover a find of that magnitude. :P

:ranting: WHAT, 1 million Cargo Bays for a explorer...doing nothing but XEXPL in the .001% chance it strikes a 'Mother Load' in items? :P Are you NUTZ??? :blink: What a freaking waste :taz: !!! What ever happened to finding 1-2 of a item, not some HUGE cach of them :blink: !!! Seems a lot more realistic to me, and should be alot more common as well too. Remember in space stuff would last alot longer, than on planet side!

Man what a resource hog this is turning out to be :thumbsup:

Talking about this with a friend, whom also plays in other PBMs/PBEMs too! He feels that it is a real disapointment that 'IF you do not have the CARGO' space you LOOSE the items :angry: Now he said it is only logical that someone would sit there and call up Transport to cart away the stuff, but to just loose it. ALSO <_< as he pointed out, we don't EVEN get notified that we found this huge cach and lost it...I AM SCREAMING...FOUL :taz: !!!

This should be changed :ranting::angry2::ranting::angry2::ranting:

How do we know that we don't get notified? I would expect to see a message stating that the cargo master loaded X item into cargo bays or failed to load X item because it wouldn't fit. I really doubt we have been missing a bunch of items simply due to lack of cargo space. I also don't expect to find 100,000 tons of iron or other multiple items. I really think we will be finding 1 or 2 Mk IV Nova Siege Cannons that each take up 125,000 tons, or something similar.

It really is pointless to even worry about it until Pete fixes the code so we can actually find stuff. If a single can have 100's of successful explores and still not find anything I doubt my few dozen success will likely turn up anything either.

I really doubt we have been missing a bunch of items simply due to lack of cargo space.

That hasn't been the case so don't worry on that score. You haven't been losing lots of items - the code just hasn't been letting you find very many if any at all.

We are looking at increasing the chances on finding things since that is a planned fun activity that just isn't working. Please note that this isn't mean to be a lottery jackpot - you won't be finding huge weapons that outclass your entire fleet (and that of your neighbors). You'll find small lots of items, including finished products, that will be useful to you but will not upset the strategic balance of power. The chance of losing items will exist but if you follow the guideline here you won't have to worry about it.

Guideline: Shoot for about 25,000 tons available cargo capacity. The vast majority of finds will be less than this (the larger finds being either rare or dealt with in other ways) so you can get by with less but if you want to pretty much eliminate the chance of losing something - keep 25,000 tons free space.

Implementation Note: We'll include a note in the turn results when we've got this change in the game. You can start making plans but don't go hog wild on EXPL orders for the purpose of trying to find doodads until you see the note from Pete :angry2:

P.S. I just knew that putting in those angry emoticons would come back to haunt me... :lol:
