Good Morning, Rick - To quote Gary, I was "stirring the pot" a bit. His excessive irritation was a target too hard to resist, so had to give it the same treatment that he appears to enjoy.

That said, I do agree communications on the subject should have been more timely - assuming this thread is accurately portraying events.

As near as I can tell this is the first turn that anybody was aware that any ships were to be restored on any side. And as Pete noted, they had not shown up on any turns. I fail to see what all the angst is about. All ships have been restored on all sides. The element of surprise is lost and there has been plenty of opportunity for additional defenses to be built as well as additional offensive units. I have not heard of either side suing for peace so I would suspect that there will be another battle eventually. Hopefully we will all be blessed with the battle results that demonstrate that the battle system is working properly, regardless of the outcome of the battle.

It is also apparent that you fail to read the board at your own peril as it is in fact the official forum for RTG.

Wow, so no concern should be shown by RTG for players not on this board, like say the paper turn players? That is harsh.

This is what I suggested to Pete.

Have office hours, IE 10 am to 2 PM Tuesday and Thursday, I will be near phone, you could even change the hours on the board every week as your schedule changes or on the top of the turn every two weeks as your schedule changes

Two, you acknowlege incoming emails as received, like Russ does

Three, you decide on where and how you are going to reply to problems like this, and do it that way every time.

Example

I will always reply via email(unless there is no email account)

Then I will mail a letter, call, or whatever you like.

I believe these three things would solve 70 to 90 percent of RTG complaints that I have heard.

I think those are reasonable suggestions Gary. After all, in this age of text messages, emails, cell phones, there is really no valid reason for a business to be difficult to get ahold of. I have no clue whether RTG is a part time concern for Russ/Pete or whether it's the primary job, but it seems reasonable to have a few hours every couple days where issues can be addressed.

Did you make these suggestions via email or verbally? If verbally, what kind of response did you get?

It isn't my policy, but that does seem to be that way things are. So, lacking the ability to change the policy the best you can do is to look to the board for your answers. It is also nice to have a friend on the boards that can forward along relevant information in a timely fashion if one is unable to get to the board.

I just met a group of several people who don't have access to the board at all and only play by snail mail. They know the disadvantages yet they continue to play and have played for some time now.

Good luck on turns, may the biggest fleets not always win.

What do you mean "biggest fleets not always win."??? *worried frown* :woohoo: Here I've been building up the biggest fleets and now you are telling me they not always win! *panicked look* :o

Please do post the battle again when the flag bridges work as they were supposed to, I am curious as I had seen a different outcome from the numbers presented.

:python:

/Locklyn

Locklyn,

As per your request, here is the latest iteration of the space battle for Semjan 3.

In a nut shell, the Flag Bridge worked exactly as advertised this time. The enemy had roughly 21,600 ship, nearly all of them 1,000 ton screens. Their four heavy units were the 102nd, 103rd, 104th, and 105th casualties of the battle.

The defenders put up a brave, spirited, and highly admirable defense, sacrificing their bodies and ships in order to give the civilian population time to evacuate the world.

We express gratitude to enemy-of-our-enemy, the Bene Gesserit, for their invaluable aid in this effort.

Mephisto of the Alpha Circle

Lord of the Implements

Thank you! Nice battle and some pretty good medium sized ships there as well! It is good to see that the flagbridge is finally working as intended, hope it stays fixed :)

Cheers

What's interesting in the battle is they brought 440 Billion in firepower to the fight versus around 80 Billion for the enemy. Overall their shields absorbed around 160 Billion, cutting it a bit close (well, 16 our of 80 billion shield left) on one NDN. But of course, their weapons concentrated toward the big targets thanks the Mk I Flag Bridge (excpet for some stray shots here and there). So after two rounds of battle, I think they effectively destroyed the shields and blasted the big fortresses to bits. Then they spent another 200+ rounds shooting everything else (Hey Glarg, watch what happens when I shoot that 1000 ton SOX base with 4 Billion in Firepower... POOF!). Was this excellent planning (they lost 0, enemy lost everything), or luck they didn't lose at leasty the smaller of the NDN's?

All victories are a result of luck while all defeats are the result of careful planning.

Looks like they expected a bit more on the defensive side of things.

Looking at the other ships in the battle the small NDN now looks like a disposable screening element.
